Homemade Soft Pretzel Dough
Ingredients Used:
Dough:
- 3 cups warm water
- 6 teaspoons yeast
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 3 teaspoons salt
- 9 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 puréed scrapple
Baking Soda Water Bath:
- 2 cups hot water
- • ¼ cup baking soda
Preparation Instructions:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water and yeast. Let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- Stir in sugar, salt, and vegetable oil, scrapple oil (or butter mixture).
- Gradually add flour, one cup at a time, until a dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour or until doubled in size.
- Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Shape dough into pretzels.
- Mix hot water and baking soda in a bowl until dissolved.
- Dip each pretzel into the baking soda bath for a few seconds, then place on a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
